We are family festival, platform, 2018

We are Family was something I had wanted to do for a long time. Participation departments often give away free tickets to their local community members - we did at the Young Vic - but it is rare that those members then get to see work outside of that theatre for free. Work that might be politically or aesthetically different, unexpected, simply… new. This festival was for them. Artists got the chance to put work in front of a community audience and the local community got to see work by artists they didn’t ordinarily have access to. The artists provided a workshop to sit alongside their show or sharing and I programmed some additional workshops to complement the shows. On the last Saturday we had a children’s show and family puppet making workshop. All for free. Glorious.
